Trans* and gender variant people continue to face discrimination, prejudice and injustice. Whilst significant progress towards trans* equality has been made; for too many trans* people equal treatment, fairness and dignity remain elusive.
Trans* and gender variant members of LGBT Labour have prepared proposals on how to further secure equality and inclusion of trans* and gender variant people. We have attempted to avoid devising a lengthy aspirational “wish list” but rather focused on what we believe are some significant but realistic and achievable measures, which can be actioned by an incoming Labour Government. We have been mindful to avoid significant increase in expenditure and many measures can be achieved without extensive legislative changes.
These proposals are to spark debate and discussion. We welcome other LGBT Labour members, trans* and gender variant people and representative organisations to send comments on the proposals. LGBT Labour is committed to gathering these views to inform the debate within the Labour Party and wider Labour movement on securing trans* equality and inclusion.
